Accommodations and Meals

Granville Towers | Other Lodging Options | Commuting

Granville Towers

The Workshop partners with Granville Towers, a private air-conditioned residence hall located a short walk from the Department of Music's facilities and downtown Chapel Hill. Participants are housed in suites, with two rooms sharing a common bath area.

Participants staying at Granville Towers must purchase both room and board (meals). The Granville Towers dining hall does offer vegetarian menu options, and guests who are not staying in Granville are able to purchase individual meals (so you can invite non-boarding guests to dine with you).

Fee amounts are given in the fees section of this site. The fees for Granville Towers include:

  • accommodations Sunday night through Friday night, with a Saturday morning departure;
  • linen service including sheets, blankets, pillows, and towels;
  • meals from Monday breakfast through Friday dinner;

There is a separate fee for parking for the week.

Non-performing family members or guests are welcome to accompany you in the dorm, where they will feel comfortable walking to the attractions on campus as well as shopping and dining on Chapel Hill's Franklin Street.

To reserve a room, indicate your preference (single or double occupancy) on your application. To guarantee accommodations, be sure we receive your payment by the deadline given on the application.

Other Lodging Options

While we encourage workshop participants to enjoy the camaraderie of lodging together at Granville Towers, occasionally someone prefers to stay at a hotel.

There are a hotels in the area, though they can be expensive and most are not that close to the workshop. The Carolina Inn is within walking distance. Also near are the Siena Hotel and a Sheraton. Less-expensive but further away options include the University Inn, Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, and Courtyard by Marriott.

The Chapel Hill/Carrboro Chamber of Commerce has a substantial list of hotels and other resources on their web site.

Commuting

For commuters, a weekly pass for parking at Granville Towers is available for a fee. Please see our fees section for the actual cost. If you would like to purchase a commuter pass, please indicate this on your application.

Individual meals may be purchased at Granville Towers cafeteria even if you are not staying there.
